According to the legend the famous Georgian writer and diplomat Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani arrived in this beautiful part of Kutaisi after his long voyage in Europe. He gave the unknown seeds to the church fathers . In no time beautiful green flowers (mtsvane kvavili) to blossome around. Mtsvanekvavila is in the northeast borders of the city and looks over the river Rioni. There are several historical buildings on the territori. The oldest is the basilica, church on the west cape of the Tsvanekvavila hill. It was built in 1013 and there were only ruins of church now.
There are two more old buildings on the Mtsvanekvavila territory: fortrees and tower , and small church basilica.
The fortress was built in 1637. Since 1956 the place was announced as an pantheon for the famous people.
