Borjomi
Borjomi is one of the main balneology and climate health resorts of Georgia.It's situated at 810-850m above the sea level and is surrounded by high hills. It has warm summers, mild snowy winters, pure and transparent air, medicinal water and most beautiful sceneries. At the alt. of 810 m and at the distance of 160 km from Tbilisi, it is a part of the ravine covered with forests. All these have made Borjomi famous since XIX c; All resorts around Borjomi were the property of the Russian Tsar’s family. Borjomi mineral water is the major factor of the resort’s healing and treatment characteristics.
At the end of the 19th century, the blooming period of the town, a beautiful promenade was created along the small river Borjomula. The promenade leads to the mineral water park where one can taste the famous water. A one hour (3 km) walk along the river leads to its source, where a refreshing jump in the natural summer swimming pool can be taken.
More challenging is the trip over the Sadgeri Ridge, starting from Chobiskhevi, just 12 km south-west of Borjomi can be done as a half or full day walk. A gravel road leads in western direction under the old cable railway through the meadows of the villages along the river up to the Dabatsveli Plateau (1800m). After 15km on foot, horse or by jeep, picturesque forest lakes are reached. Those who follow the road further can head for Bakuriani (ca. 16 km), which can be reached via Bakuriani-Andesiti within 4 hours.
